Start the Fun in Hervey Bay Boat Harbour

Hervey Bay Boat Harbour - Hervey Bay Tourist InformationKnown as the jewel in Queensland crown, Hervey Bay even deserves more than that. It is also famous for its remarkable whale watching industry and is even tagged as the Whale Watch Capital of the World. A tiny city spread across 10 kilometers of southern Queensland’s coastline, Hervey Bay is also a transit point to several of Australia’s natural tourist destinations including the Great Barrier Reef, The Lady Elliot Island, Fraser Island, among others. The city’s population is just over 60,000 thousand. Hervey Bay has a subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 14-23 degrees Celsius during winter and 22-29 degrees Celsius during summer. It has a relatively low rainfall compared to other Queensland tourist spots.

Hervey Bay Boat Club at the Great Sandy Straits MarinaThe most important industry of the city is whale watching. After more than 20 years, it has become a sophisticated business giving livelihood to locals and entertainment to both locals and tourists alike. There are now many boat operators that offer competitive prices to tourists for a look at some of nature’s gentle yet giant mammals–the humpback whales. The boats are anchored off Boat Harbour. This is where guests depart and arrive for their water tours. The harbor is located in Urangan. This is an ideal jump-off point to many of Hervey Bay’s attractions like the Fraser Island and The Lady Elliot Island located in The Great Barrier Reef.

Boat Harbour is also where most of many interesting and enjoyable tours in and around Hervey Bay start. Fraser Island offers magnificent view of the Maheno shipwrecks and the colorful sand formation unique to this island alone. Catamaran cruises are also one of the favorites of many visitors here to unwind, sit back and just enjoy the sun off the coast. Most of these cruises take only a handful of passengers to ensure a relaxing atmosphere during the cruise. Guests can enjoy a full walk on deck with only a minimum number of people around. Scuba divers also start their exploration in Boat Harbour. There are many excellent dive spots especially near the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.

For those not qualified for scuba diving, a terrific view of underwater corals can still be viewed inside a glass bottom boat anytime. While Hervey Bay is famous for its many water sports activity, it is a little-known fact that it is also an excellent place for skydiving. High-adrenaline jumps are now becoming common during summer. One can also go off-road driving with 4 wheel-drive vehicles to better enjoy the Australian outdoors.  Biking in, around, and at the outskirts of the city is not only healthy but is also a fascinating activity. There’s a natural strip and a bike path starting from the Urangan Pier to a series of grand beach houses in Point Vernon.  One can also go horse riding or carting around. Aside from these mentioned activities, there are just so many things to do in Hervey Bay for free.

Whether land or sea-based fun, Hervey Bay will not fail to give satisfaction. Exploring Australia should rightfully start here.
