A Brief Travel View on Hervey Bay

A tour of Australia is only complete when Hervey Bay is on the list. Everything in this small suburb is simply amazing. Aside from awe-inspiring natural wonders like the unique formation of the largest sand island in the world–Fraser Island, guests can also witness some of nature’s highly acrobatic gentle giants, the humpback whales in their natural habitat. World-class accommodation and a calm environment all contributes to a relaxing feeling if one is visiting the place. The locals are living in a closely-knit community due to the fact that before Hervey Bay became a tourist magnet, it was simply a laidback string of towns along the coastline of southern Queensland. Now, even with the apparent increasing influx of tourists every year, the people try to continue living the way they did a few years back.

Travel to Hervey Bay mainly highlights magnificent scenes on the water and nice stretch of beaches. Urangan is a jump off point if one goes to Fraser Island. This Island, which lies in the eastern shore of Hervey Bay coastline, also helps protect the mainland from occasional violent cyclones. The water between the Island and Hervey Bay is home to hundreds of humpback whales during July until November. Humpbacks travel to the shores of Hervey Bay at these months to rear their young and to avoid the cold winter Antarctic waters. The whale watching industry has been operating for more than 20 years now and has become a complex business employing a large number of locals. Guests can choose from a wide variety of boats.

Accommodation in Hervey Bay is superb. There are many hotels, apartments, motels, backpacker’s hostels, and many more. Seaside resorts are also common. Transportation around the city is provided by an efficient bus fleet or taxi. The city itself is ideal for a stroll even during the afternoon and the sun is high. The climate in this area is relatively cooler due to south east trade winds for most of the year– with an average of 30 °C (86 °F) even during summer.

The city itself is an ideal point to start the exploration of the Great Barrier Reef, one of the most easily recognizable natural formations in space. The Lady Elliot Island, which is located on the reef itself, can be reached by air through Hervey Bay’s domestic airport. The southern tip of the reef is known as a best snorkeling and diving spot in the reef itself. Visibility is good at an average of 20-30 meters. Tourists can also charter a fishing boat for some happy fishing time. There are several operators that will surely make one’s fishing trip a remarkable one. Depending on the weather, operators can take guests to the open ocean to look for Pearl Perch, Coral Trout, and many other interesting species of fish found only in these waters.

Aside from water activities, Hervey Bay also offers great outdoor driving. There are many self-drive tours and they are as popular as the water scenic tours.

A visit to Hervey Bay can be a great vacation. It is a must-see location, anytime.
